Ronwen Williams, the goalkeeper for South Africa in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal, has stated once more how difficult it was for him to duplicate his incredible penalty saves against the Super Eagles.
Remember how, in the quarterfinal match against DR Congo, Williams was so sure he could do it again that he failed to save a single penalty? Four of their five penalties had been stopped by Williams.

Williams conceded that his strategy did not produce the desired effects, but he did try his hardest to unnerve Nigeria’s penalty takers in an interview with CBS Sports Golazo.
Naturally, there are only three directions in which you can go: straight ahead, left, or right. They ask us to cut off our communication with the players. I try to push the envelope and go up to them, trying to figure out where they are going so that, at the very least, I have gained some ground.
“They started studying me too; you know, four out of five penalties went down the middle, so now I need to come up with better ideas,” the 32-year-old said to CBS Sports Golazo.
