Lack of funding has forced Nigeria’s senior men’s national basketball team, the D’Tigers, to withdraw from the AfroBasket 2025 qualifications.
On D’Tigers’ X account, the team acknowledged their departure.
During the first qualifying window, which will take place in Tunisia, D’Tigers have been put into Group B alongside Uganda, Cape Verde, and Libya.

The Nigerian team will play Libya in the first round of the qualifiers on Saturday, February 23.
According to reports, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is currently attempting, at the last minute, to get funding so that D’Tigers can compete in the qualifications.
In order to choose the 16 countries who will compete in the FIBA AfroBasket 2025, the AfroBasket 2025 qualifying will take place from February to November of 2024.
Only once has Nigeria won the AfroBasket that occurred in 2015.
