Stephen Curry of the Warriors showcased his exceptional long-range shooting skills, scoring six 3-pointers and a total of 32 points, leading his team to a 128-110 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night in San Francisco. The Lakers were without LeBron James, who was sidelined due to a sore left ankle, slowing down a team that had been averaging 134 points in their last three victories before the All-Star break.
The Warriors were the only team to come close to this average in the second-half opener, with Curry’s 12-for-24 shooting leading the charge. Trayce Jackson-Davis, a rookie, added 17 points off the bench for Golden State.
Andrew Wiggins followed Curry with 20 points, contributing to the Warriors’ seventh win in their last eight games.
Curry’s six 3-pointers in 13 attempts marked the ninth time in his last 13 games where he scored six or more, excluding the 29 points he scored from beyond the arc against Sabrina Ionescu during the All-Star Weekend exhibition in Indianapolis. Curry scored 25 of his 32 points in the first half, helping the Warriors turn a one-point deficit into a 67-56 lead at halftime with a 17-5 run. Brandin Podziemski also contributed with a couple of 3-pointers.
The Lakers couldn’t close the gap to less than eight points in the second half.
Curry also led the team with eight assists and three steals, while Podziemski led with nine rebounds and added 10 points. Draymond Green contributed with eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Jackson-Davis scored 17 points in just 15 minutes with an 8-for-10 shooting performance. Jonathan Kuminga added 12 points.
For the Lakers, Anthony Davis led with 27 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. The Lakers had previously defeated the Warriors in double overtime in a previous meeting in San Francisco.
On Thursday, D’Angelo Russell led the game with nine assists and added 18 points for the Lakers, while Austin Reaves and Taurean Prince contributed 16 and 12 points, respectively.
